kitty's big red lips

Go ahead, click on it! It's the lipstick featured in kitty's kiss below, Dr. Hauschka lipstick #6. It smells like roses, glides beautifully, doesn't smear and bleed and make me look like a member of The Cure. Come to think of it, I don't think I've worn red lipstick since I stopped listening to them in 1994! Anyway, this is a lipstick that can be blotted down to a stain with staying power or left at full tilt to rock the night away. I love it!
Ingredients include beeswax, plant waxes and essential oils, not disgusting petrochemicals. It's safe enough to eat, which is a good thing if you believe the urban legends that the average woman eats/absorbs up to 5 tubes a year, or 6 pounds in a lifetime... lick by lick, drink by drink, bite by bite. The problem is, cosmetics are unregulated and mainstream brands are free to include all kinds of toxic ingredients, such as lead. Remember that scare from a few years ago? No, thanks. I'll stick to strictly botanical formulas! What do you use on your lips?

  1. it looks like a really good red, I remember the days when I wore red, I used MAC's Russian Red, it would stay on all day, but had a pasty feeling yuk, haven't worn red for a while too, this one looks worth a try. :)

  3. Do natural lipsticks have a shelf life that we should be aware of?

  4. I use the Russian Red from MAC, but I think I might give this one a try.

  5. Muse: I would definitely exercise caution with natural lipsticks because they don't contain synthetic preservatives. I am not a chemist by any means, but thanks to your posts on essential oils, I know oils can spoil. Most natural products state the shelf-life on the label, but I'll look this up specifically. Thanks! kitty

  7. I have always been obsessed with rose, but it's hit a fever pitch lately. Any recommendations for rose scented goods?

  8. Jezebel: I love rose, too! Hit the Fragrant Muse's site to see if she has anything on rose oils. Lavanilla makes a rose-vanilla line which I loved at first, but now not so much. It began to get a little musky on me, reminiscent of mouldering petals. I much prefer the straight vanilla line. A lot of Dr. Hauschka is rose-scented and always delightful. Refer to the sidebar on the left to direct you to some Dr. H resources. Thanks for stopping by!
